Baseball 1987 Hall of Famer inductee Billy Williams signs copies with co-author Fred Mitchell at Borders Books on State Street in Chicago on April 16, 2008. Billy Leo Williams, also known as Sweet Swingin’ Billy from Whistler was born on June 15, 1938 in Whistler, Alabama. He debut with the Chicago Cubs in 1959. In 1961 Williams was selected as Rookie of the Year. He continued his career as a professional major league baseball player through 1976.
